Inspired by a benefit event for a feminist organization in late-'70s Montreal, nine young women, all active in other musical groups, formed Wondeur Brass - a free jazz/punk/new wave inspired band consisting of all brass plus piano and drums. By 1985, Wondeur Brass added an electric bass, and reduced it's membership to six: Joane H+-tu, Diane Labrosse, Danielle P. Roger, Ginette Bergeron, Helene Bedard and Judith Greber-Stitzer. This sextet recorded the debut LP Ravir, presented here. The album was well received critically and the group became popular outside of Montreal, most notably in England and France. The band released a second album in 1987 with a paired down line-up and in 1990 the group had morphed into the band Justine. Heu, Labrosse and Roger each went on to become highly influential forces in Montreal's "musique actuelle" scene. All selections newly remastered.
