Wilma Lee / Stoney Cooper - Columbia Years 1949-1954

Of all the husband/wife duos in Country Music, WILMA LEE & STONEY COOPER enjoyed one of the more extraordinary careers, being operative from the late 30s until Stoney's death, in 1977. Remarkably, throughout this period they continued to perform in a traditional, old school Appalachian Mountain music style, ignoring all contemporary trends, registering their biggest hits in the late 50s, directly in the teeth of Rock & Roll, Rockabilly and the newly-emergent Nashville Countrypolitan sound. In 1974, Wilma Lee was awarded the title of "The First Lady Of Bluegrass" by the Smithsonian Institute. This compilation presents the Very Best of their singles for Columbia Records, between 1949-54, and includes many sides which are difficult to find elsewhere on CD.
