It started listening to the Beatles' Christmas messages. One year, 1989, Robert and friend Bert put together a Christmas message that was a modal/trance jingle using Russian expressions, as Robert had just returned from a trip to St. Petersburg, and Bert readily mastered select rhythmic Russian dialects.... da ... da, oh yeah! Then in 1990, Robert took a few days off from the White Noise CD, Ecelctic Signs, to do a song with the up-beat and optimism of Christmas. The quickly produced 'Just for Once' became a favorite of White Noise fans, even though it was done in a very short time, with very sparse instrumentation. Every year since, in December, Robert has taken a few days off to write a holiday song to capture the spirit of December, and regain a bit of what Southern California winter lacks....Christmas lights reflected on snowy trees. Lyrics with images of the trappings of December envelope the listener, we're told. This year, we've decided to release songs from 1990-2006, with cover and lyric book graphics by Stacie Heyen, in the album A White Noise Christmas. The winding down of December, of thinking things over, of snow scenes, of feeling less constrained by the particulars of last year, and of various takes on Santa and the tree.
