This 1995 session from the late saxophonist and clarinetist Vic Ash (who died in October 2014 aged 84), features him alongside an all-star rhythm section of David Newton, Malcolm Creese and Allan Ganley. It has now been reduced to a budget price. Ash began playing professionally in 1951 when, with Tubby Hayes, he joined the band of Kenny Baker, with whom he played until 1953. He also played with Vic Lewis and accompanied Hoagy Carmichael and Cab Calloway on their English tours. He led his own group and was a favorite in the Melody Maker fan polls of the 1950s. Ash remained a mainstay of the British jazz scene for decades, playing in small and large ensembles including the BBC Big Band. He accompanied Frank Sinatra on tours in Europe and the Middle East from 1970 until Sinatra's death. Personnel: Vic Ash (clarinet, tenor saxophone), David Newton (piano), Malcolm Creese (double bass), Allan Ganley (drums)
