The sound of the human voice many musicians will tell you is the most beautiful and perfect instrument in the world. Take the old group harmony sounds, the kind that made rock n' roll king in the 1950s, record them with the most fantastic harmony groups of our time, but in a new way - without instrumental background. That's the sound of Acappella. Put it together with 20 great tunes; some standards, some new, and you've got what might be the greatest rock n' roll album ever. The groups included on this compilation imclude The Versailles, whose many fans of long standing will remember the bass-baritone quality of Harvey Shaplow from his past recording days with the widely known Ritchie & Revelations. He later loaned his quality to another equally fantastic group, The Versailles. A group whose harmonic tones ring as beautifully as their name. Joe, George and Noar, the other three members, have such wide range of sounds that each one at some time can be found doing lead on at least one of their various recordings. All members of this group hail from the Marble Hill projects in the Bronx, New York. The Zircons, whose major acappella success has followed this group through such singles as "Silver Bells" and "Stormy Weather." All members lived in the Bronx, NY. The lead singer was Mario, first tenor Leo, second tenor Bobby, baritone Carlos, and bass Barry. At the time of this recording, the group had been together for over two years and perfected the sound known as the Zircon Sound. The feature point of this distinctive sound is the lead quality of Mario Ibanez whose voice is unlike any other lead in the Acappella field. The Savoys were from Newark, NJ just on the outskirts of Branchbrook Park. The members of the group were Angelo Basilone, John Faliveno, Joseph Castellano, Joseph Stefanelli and Sam Monaco. Many times they were featured at shows in Rutherford, Farliegh Dickinson University and Newark. At These shows they were billed with famous recording artists. They also appeared in the Casino at Seaside and other shore resort areas. The Savoys are known to put forth their heart and soul along with their vocal power and clean harmony into whatever they sing. The Five Fashions, also known as the Group Called Us, hailed from Stamford, Connecticut. Tremendous harmony with the mellow touch has been their trademark. They performed throughout Connecticut and parts of New York and New Jersey. They are respectively: Bruce Burdock, Robert Wasters, Frank Erico, Anthony Motylinsk, Richard Melesk and Richard Bour. This historic compilation "I Dig Acappella" was originally issued over 50 years ago and is presented here newly remastered for this exclusive release. .
