A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Tim Whitsett is an American music publisher, musician, songwriter, producer, author, and music business consultant. With his band, The Imperials, later known as The Imperial Show Band, he recorded over 20 singles in a variety of genres including R&B, Pop and Instrumental for a number of different labels including Sue Records, Trebco, Imperial, Lowery, Big Ten and others. After the group disbanded, in 1969, Tim went on to preside over Stax's music publishing division, East/Memphis Music Corp. - and in the 1970s he formed a record production and music publishing company with Chick Churchill, keyboardist with British rock group Ten Years After. He also began working with Malaco Records around this same time, in a number of capacities. His early singles are top-notch R&B rockers, with superb backing from The Imperials - one of the first interacial rock bands to come from the south. Featured here is the ultra-rare 1961 single for Atlas Records, "I Don't Care" b/w "Scalywag," featuring a vocal on Side A and a rockin' instrumental on the B side - loving remastered from the original 45 RPM record mix and finally made available in the digital domain. .
