Riding into a tiny town to collect his latest bounty, a cynical ex-peace officer (Henry Fonda) finds the local law enforcement to be in the hands of an unseasoned rookie sheriff (Anthony Perkins). The mercenary elects to show the greenhorn how to live up to his badge, and face down a dangerous owlhoot (Neville Brand), in this thoughtful oater from Anthony Mann.
