When wealthy developer Tony (James Fox) acquired a new home in London, he retained the efficient-seeming Hugo Barrett (Dirk Bogarde) as his valet. His fiancée Susan (Wendy Craig), however, was wary of the hire... and it'd be well justified as the calculating Barrett inexorably shifted the power dynamic within the household.
