Co-scripters Annie Clark and Carrie Brownstein play fictionalized versions of themselves-maybe-in this mockumentary-thriller, as Annie hires Carrie to direct a concert chronicle of Clark's stage persona, St. Vincent. However, as Brownstein concludes that Annie just isn't as colorful as her alter ego, the filmmaker pushes her subject into more extreme behavior... with more extreme consequences.
