In the early '30s, the Japanese Navy sought to establish dominance in the Pacific, and the controlling voices argued the construction of the battleship Yamato would be the means. Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto (Hiroshi Tachi) disagreed, and he tasked upstart number-cruncher Maj. Tadashi Kai (Masaki Suda) with casting the project as a costly mistake.
