THE EPIC THAT NEVER WAS - Why, exactly, was production on the 1937 film "I, Claudius" halted, preventing it's completion and cutting short it's journey to the silver screen? Was it because Merle Oberon, who played the role of Messalina in the film, was injured in a car accident during filming? Or was it that Charles Laughton, who played the title character, suffered some sort of breakdown? Or were there internal, creative disputes that brought it down? Rumors and speculation swirled about for over 20 years after production ceased. This documentary, accented heavily with the original film's footage and hosted by Dick Bogarde, features interviews from Robert Graves, who wrote the book upon which the production was based, and other major players who knew the details of the film's production intimately, providing the answers which may lay the rumors laid. Genre: Documentary Year: 1965 B&W Runtime: 74 minutes
