The Dollmaker

Jane Fonda won an Emmy for her portrayal of Gertie Nevels, a woman in postwar rural Kentucky who struggles to keep her family together after they move to Detroit, where her husband, Clovis (Levon Helm), searches tirelessly for work. While meeting family tragedy and social prejudice head on, Gertie sees her skills as a woodcarver and dollmaker as their way to overcome.
