The Magdeburg Telemann Festival was first held in 1962, at the initiative of the Georg Philipp Telemann Work Group, and has been presented jointly by the City of Magdeburg and the Telemann Work Group since 1967. It's conception and implementation are entrusted to the Telemann Performance and Research Centre in Magdeburg. Since 1990 it has taken place at two-hear intervals, and since 1998 each festival has been accompanied by a special motto, such as 'Telemann and France,' 'Telemann and Bach,' or 'Telemann and Church Music.' The goal of the festival is to present Telemann's music in exemplary performances by artists of international stature. Many newly rediscovered works have found their way from Magdeburg to the world of music. The most recent product of the collaboration between the Magdeburg Festival and CPO is the present release, which was recorded at the final concert of the 23rd Magdeburger Telemann Festival. This festival had the title of "Telemann and the Concert."
