Ex-NBA player Scot Pollard, former Big Brother houseguest Caleb Reynolds, an emergency room doctor, a former FBI agent, a professional poker player, and a quantitative strategist are among the new castaways divided into three tribes based on high IQ, muscular physique and physical looks. They work with - and against - each other to outwit, outplay, outlast and ultimately be crowned Sole Survivor. In one of the most physically grueling seasons in the shows history, Survivor: Kaoh Rong saw a season record three medical evacuations. In Survivor: Kaoh Rong, a second potential power is revealed with the hidden immunity idol: It can be used with another idol, as the two can physically be pieced together, forming a super idol. The newfound power can be played not just after the votes are cast, but also after they are read, therefore acting as a safety net, saving a person who has been voted out. The drama is heightened as only those who find the hidden idols will know about their power. This season also marks a new twist: The finalists competed in a challenge with the winner having the first-ever opportunity to vote someone out of the jury.
