Re-press. Featuring a brilliant interpretation of the Smiths classic: 'This Charming Man', "This Charming Man never tasted this sweet!" -SPIN). It's the new 'NSYNC for Momus lovers or Belle & Sebastian with beats and even breathier vocals. Le Grand Magistery is proud to announce the fantastic new band, Stars. Stars is a pop band that strives to create a musical dreamworld based on one simple manifesto: "Luxe, Calme et Volupte" (Light, Calm and Voluptuous). This manifesto is inspired by artists of the sensual realm: The Auters, Black Box Recorder, Matisse, Al Green, New Order, the Pet Shop Boys, Sargent, Bjork, Saint Etienne, Massive Attack, and the Smiths. Torquil Campbell sings and writes the lyrics. His songs are tales about his life, a world inspired by "the night, color, daydreams, cheap thrills, sleeping pills, regret, tragedy, sex, the scent of lime, Johnny Marr..." Many songs are vivid recollections of his past. Torquil is used to conjuring images, as he is also an actor of stage and screen. He began as a child actor, starring in a boy/sea mammal friendship tale called "The Golden Seal" which featured a soundtrack by the legendary John Barry and spurned a single by Glen Campbell. Although he is still a respected working actor, having appeared in numerous plays (most recently "Shopping and Fucking" with Philip Seymour Hoffman) and tv shows (Law & Order) writing and singing pop songs is what Campbell prefers and we can only be thankful he Chris Seligman was groomed to be a French horn player. He has a masters degree in music, has performed with many respected orchestras and has played in the pit of the Broadway musical the Scarlesical life and decided to play his own material. Inspired by artists such as Prefab Sprout and Detroit Techno acts like Carl Craig, he began writing and recording songs with Torquil.
