Two CD collection. Stan Freberg was one of America's foremost satirists during the 1950s and his sublime parodies of then current pop music hits are almost as well-known as some of the hits he lampooned. Pop parodies aplenty. Listen to Stan take on Johnnie Ray's massive international hit, "Cry" with "Try", Les Paul & Mary Ford's "The World Is Waiting For The Sunrise", Eartha Kitt's, "C'est Si Bon", The Chords, "Sh-Boom", Mitch Miller's "The Yellow Rose Of Texas", The Platter's "The Great Pretender" and Lonnie Donegan's "Rock Island Line". The latter became his biggest UK hit and remained a staple, as did many of his records, on British radio for many years. The most popular of which was probably "Day-O, The Banana Boat Song" which had been a major hit for Harry Belafonte. This is a superb overview of a remarkable and indeed hysterically funny career and despite the age of these recordings they remain almost as funny as they were when released over fifty years ago. To paraphrase "Hey Folks, this is a CD we're selling, not the Holy Grail".
