In this mixed program of lieder by Franz Schubert, the greatest and most prolific composer of the form, some 600 songs, despite his tragically early death, the baritone Hermann Prey here demonstrates the varied art of song with his distinctive balance of intellect and feeling as well as his idiomatic way with the language, accompanied at the piano by Gerald Moore, rightly considered by most musical authorities as the finest partner of singers ever to have graced the concert stage.
