This original program by organist Matthias Havinga plays on the theme of the passacaglia throughout history: From it's formal maturity in the 17th century through 20th century inventions on and developments of the once-rigid form. Though the passacaglia is certainly not restricted to the organ, this collection demonstrates just how well-suited the instrument's sustained tone and majestic timbres are to the form. Havinga delivers innovative performances with well-curated timbral understanding.
