Paulo Oliveira, saxophonist, flautist, wind-synthesizer player and arranger, was born in Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil. Has been working as a professional since 1977. Has been performing on several ensembles and genres, in the popular music scene and classical field as well. As for the pop music, has played or recorded with many artists among Belchior, Wanderléa, Ronnie Von, Johnny Alf, 'The Platters', Peri Ribeiro, Luli & Lucina, Bibi Ferreira, Leandro Leonardo, Sá Guarabira, Virgínia Rosa, Eugénia Melo e Castro, Ana Caram, Fábio Jr..,Trio Mocotó, Marcelo D2, Zezé de Camargo & Luciano and the New Yorker band "10.000 Maniacs". As for the instrumental music, it stands out his performance with the guitar player Olmir 'Alemão' Stocker's quartet, taking part in two releases: 'Alemão Bem Brasileiro', in 1986 on Som da Gente/Happy-Hour Music (USA) labels and 'Só Sabor' on Vison Digital in 1990. With this group, played at the Montreal International Jazz Festival in Canada in the 1988 and 1990 editions; at the Brazilian Instrumental Music Show at the Town Hall in New York in 1989; at the "Free Jazz Festival 89', in Sao Paulo; and at several jazz clubs in Los Angeles, New York and Montreal. With the accordion player Toninho Ferragutti's trio toured Portugal in November 2001 for a series of concerts, and Mexico City in 2003 for the "Puerta de las Américas" Festival. Has also played on Toninho's CD "Sanfonemas" - Eldorado Music. In August 2002, took part in a successful tour in Japan as a sideman with the singer and guitar player Ana Caram, in concerts at the Kotchan Jazz Festival in Hokaido and at the Motion Blue jazz club in Yokohama. In July 2003, took part as a guest musician in an European tour in Germany, Spain and Belgium with the "Orquestra Popular de Câmara", performing concerts at well-known jazz and world music festivals. Since 2001 is with the Brazilian instrumental music quartet "Zarabatana", with whom recorded the CD "Mistérios" in 2005 on Zabumba label. "Trópico de Capricórnio" is his first solo release. In this CD he shows compositions of his own, plays the saxophones, flutes and the wind-synthesizer, electronic wind instrument he has been playing and researching since 1989.
