In Il divertimento dei Numi (1774), in only one hour of music, many expressive chords are struck: the balance between the sentimental and hyronical sides of this comic opera reaches to include a great variety of situations which encompasses wider expressive possibilities and peculiar aspects which largely exceeds the formulas of gallant style, or comic style. The frequent recourse to Chorus (six passages, and a repetition) and the presence of three recitatives, two of which particularly intense, make this "scherzo" very complex and extremely interesting both from the musical and the dramatic point of view. Within each piece, indeed, a stimulating variety of expressive forms stands to witness the intense linguistical research, together with an astonishing timbric variety (particularly interesting is the importance given to the solo bassoon and, in other cases, the autonomy of the violas) and a strong and continuous dynamic differentiation.
