OWARU is the meeting of two friends and artists, Arnaud Forestier on piano and Adrien Duterte on flute. Playing along the lines of jazz and classical music, this energetic duo draws from a large palette of genres in order to highlight many of the most famous works from Japanese pop culture. After more than twenty shows featuring the original music of Studio Ghibli, the band has decided to release an album solely focused on this repertoire. From Princess Mononoke and Laputa : Castle in the sky to Spirited Away and My neighbor Totoro, the duo pays homage to Hayao Miyazaki's and Joe Hisaishi's best works. Recorded at Studio 7eme Ciel, the album Owaru Plays Music From Studio Ghibli is a love letter to these magical and mysterious movies. The darkest as well as the brightest themes are put forward through new and beautiful arrangements and interpretations, while respecting the original vision of the composer. Throughout the 18 tracks of the album, some regular guests of the duo are featured, such as Japanese lyrical singer Naoko Matsui, as well as flutist Ujin Ko and violinist Gaël Derdeyn. In addition, the album includes an original composition by Arnaud Forestier for the 10th anniversary of the Parisian bookshop Le Renard Doré. Written in two versions, one in Japanese and the other one in French, the lyrics are from Julie Proust-Tanguy and Mickaël Brun-Arnaud, the owner. This is a sign of a long-term collaboration between Le Renard Doré and the duo, where several concerts have taken place. Throughout the 17 tracks of the album, some regular guests of the duo are featured, such as Japanese lyrical singer Naoko Matsui on Suteki Da Ne (FFX), as well as Ujin Ko on flute and Juliette Boyer on double bass.
