VOLUME 2 OF SANDS OF TIME ORIENTALE SERIES and the sequel to Dancing with Genies. The album contains three complete Egyptian belly dance shows, each 20 minutes long. All 21 tracks are authentic Egyptian music inspired by Egypt's Golden Era of belly dance and were recorded in Cairo with traditional instruments. Tracks include a soulful rendition of the Egyptian standard Taht as-Shebak sung by Gamalaat Sheeha, an old-school Egyptian gypsy beladi singer with a voice to rival Fatme Serhan's, in addition to two Nubian gems by Ibrahim Taklawi, several taqasims, a Saidi cane number by Idris Metkal, a Sufi inspired flute improvisation for trance dancing, three tabla solos - one recorded in 2006 by the late Khamis Henkesh, another classic by Gamalaat Sheha, Beheb Beladi, in honor of the country's latest revolution and Sayed Henkesh's two haunting mergencis, Hymn to Hathor and Sekhmet Rising. The theme of the album is Hathor, ancient Egypt's patron goddess of dancers and musicians, and one of the region's oldest deities. The album includes a 36-page color booklet with explanations of the songs and their lyrics, translated and transliterated. If you enjoy traditional Egyptian music this album is for you.
