After having recorded, from 1958 to 1961, a whole series of stereophonic recordings in 1962 Bruno Walter intended to record two works: Die Zauberfloete and Fidelio. Unfortunately the great director died that same year. In 1956, however, he had conducted a legendary performance at the Metropolitan of N.Y of Die Zauberfloete. For an immediate understanding of the American public he had chosen to give the English version of Mozart's last masterpiece. This version, excellently recorded by the MET technicians, has been published several times in very bad sound conditions. However, in recent times we have come into possession of a finally unaltered master that reproduces the original 1956 band: therefore, even being MONO, it is of excellent quality and perfectly reproduces both the orchestra conducted by Walter and the presence of the singers' voices. Urania issues a new version minimally restored with the certainty of contributing to an increase in a discography that is still fundamental today.
