The Comedian Harmonists were a world-renowned, all-male German close harmony ensemble that performed between 1928 and 1934 as one of the most well-known and successful musical acts in Europe before the Second World War. They had a wide repertoire, ranging from folk and classical songs to witty popular songs of the day. When the Third Reich rose to power, the group began to struggle- three members were Jewish or of Jewish descent, and one member had married a Jewish woman. The Nazi regime eventually prohibited them from performing, and half the group fled Germany. The remaining members in Germany replaced the lost members in a successor group named "Das Meistersextett," as authorities forbade an English name. This release contains digitally restored Electrola recordings from the latter group from the years 1935-1939.
