Massimo La Rosa, Principal Trombonist of The Cleveland Orchestra, has recorded a debut CD, Cantando, featuring both standard repertoire for trombone and piano, and new arrangements by Teddy Abrams and Yuriy Leonovich. Pianists on the recording are Elizabeth DeMio and Teddy Abrams. The album was recorded in Cleveland in June, 2010. Massimo La Rosa Born in Palermo, Sicily in 1974, Massimo La Rosa grew up in Belmonte Mezzagno, a small town outside Palermo. He began playing the trombone in the community band when he was nine years old. Later, he studied trombone in Palermo with Filippo Bonanno, principal trombone of the Sicilian Symphonic Orchestra. Prior to joining The Cleveland Orchestra in 2007, Mr. La Rosa served as principal trombone of La Fenice Opera House in Venice from 1996-2007. He is on the trombone faculty at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and has presented master classes the Manhattan School of Music, the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music and the Juilliard School.
