On July 3rd 1938, a streamlined locomotive of the London North Eastern Railway, the A4 Pacific No. 4468 named Mallard, shot to everlasting fame by breaking the world speed record for steam, 126 miles per hour. This feat would never be equaled by any other steam locomotive. In 1988, Mallard appeared restored to her beautiful L.N.E.R. garter blue livery and to full working condition. This one-hour program follows Mallard in 1988, for a tour of the York-Harrogate-Leeds-York circle the 50th anniversary of her record-breaking run.
