CD reissue. Malfunkshun formed in 1980, by vocalist/bassist Andrew (aka L'Andrew) Wood and his brother, guitarist Kevin Wood, and, after recruiting drummer Regan Hagar, went on to become one of the pioneering acts of the fledgling Seattle music scene with the likes of Soundgarden, Ten Minute Warning, The Melvins, Green River, and the U-Men. Malfunkshun was active until the mid-'80s, when the band ultimately went on hiatus as Andrew joined Green River's Stone Gossard and Jeff Ament to form Mother Love Bone, the groundbreaking rock act that, after Wood's untimely death in 1990, would become the foundation for both Pearl Jam, and Temple of the Dog (with Soundgarden's Chris Cornell), and help usher in an Earth-shattering musical movement. Originally released independently in 2006, (as From The North), Monument features new music written, and performed, by original Malfunkshun members Kevin Wood and Regan Hagar (drums), with bassist Cory Kane, and vocalist Shawn Smith (Satchel, Brad), to lyrics written by the late Andrew Wood. In a deluxe digipak featuring rare hand-written lyric sheets, photos and artwork by Andrew Wood himself, as the title implies, Monument is a staggering tribute to the legacy of the late Andrew Wood, by some of the most revered players Seattle has to offer.
