Luzzasco Luzzaschi, born in Ferrara, was one of the most celebrated composers and keyboard players of the Italian Renaissance. In service of the most influential patrons of his time, Duke Alfonso II, he developed a new keyboard style, in which vocal madrigals are arranged for intricate and complex 4-part keyboard writing, featuring skilful counterpoint and elaborate ornamentation.
