Luke Watt - Hill End Ruin

Described by the Melbourne Blues Appreciation Society as "something rather Special", Blues/Folk songwriter Luke Watt's songs "sneak up on you like a sucker punch", exhibiting a lyrical depth and thematic grit so rarely experienced in the contemporary blues/folk scene. With influences such as Chris Whitley, Kelly Joe Phelps, Richard Thompson and Bob Dylan, Luke possesses a unique guitar style, drawing on folk melodies and blues grooves to convey stories both dark and uplifting. Luke toured his debut album Examples of Farewell Speech nationally throughout 2009/2010, appearing at the Brunswick Music Festival, the Australian Blues Music Festival, the National Music Muster Gympie and the Queenscliff Music Festival plus countless live music venues. 2011 sees the release of Luke's second album Hill end Ruin, produced by Nick Huggins (Whitley/Kid Sam). Recorded in a rustic Queenscliff hall, primarily through live takes of just guitar voice and drums, the album brings to fore Luke's narrative songwriting style and intricate finger style guitar. The less is more approach to the sessions gave Luke's songs room to breathe. Stories of failed dreams, Tasmanian homicide, paranoid card players, love letters and the joy in returning home, Hill End Ruin is a uniquely honest and poignant addition to the Australian Folk/Roots scene. Joining Luke on both the record and the stage is Danny McKenna (Jeff Lang, Unified Gecko), one of the country's most talented, instinctive and in demand drummers.
