Lou McClinton, known professionally as Lou Mac, was one of the most exciting female R&B singers on the scene in Chicago in the mid-1950s. Lou recorded eight titles for the Chicago based Parrot Records subsidiary Blue Lake between 1954 and 1955. Presented here is her excellent 1955 single "Slow Down" b/w "Baby" featuring a tight combo consisting of Red Holloway (tenor sax), Willie Jones (piano), Quinn Wilson (bass) and Vernel Fournier (drums). "Slow Down" is a crisp R&B rocker featuring Red Holloway's tenor and an unknown vocal chorus, while "Baby" is a slow heart-felt ballad that Lou delivers with conviction and lots of soul. Holloway shines on this track as well. This rare classic single has been remastered and finally made available in the digital domain.
