Digitally remastered edition in gatefold mini LP jacket including inner sleeve with complete information. This quintessential Elemental Music reissue presents the long unavailable Julie London masterpiece called Nice Girls Don't Stay for Breakfast, issued by Liberty Records in 1967. It showcases the late Julie London at her breathiest best. Older fans remember her for her string of sexy Pop singles and albums while slightly younger listeners may remember London from her acting stint on the popular '70s medical drama Emergency. Either way, she left her mark on many generations and is still fondly remembered more than a decade after her death. In this album, Julie sings some of the great ballads of the '20s and '30s with warmth, intimacy, and deep feeling, but not without tasteful restraint. Her delivery is not pop and not quite jazz. Put it on the borderline between the two and call hers the art of nuance. She takes attractive liberties with melodies and phrasing. Disposed to low-register sounds, she makes excellent use of glissandos. Look for subtle, understated turns of thought and sound. On Nice Girls Don't Stay for Breakfast there are some small group jazz performances that are spectacular, particularly on "I Surrender Dear" and "I've Got a Crush on You," which give ample proof Miss London's underutilized talents as a jazz singer. Other highlights include "When I Grow Too Old to Dream," "There Will Never Be Another You" and "You Made Me Love You". She certainly made a statement with her softly sweet and sultry voice that has an air of timeless elegance.
