Joey Cape's latest effort, A Good Year to Forget is a reflective album written during a year that saw him lose his father, separate from his wife of 20 years, contract COVID, and move back in with his parents due to a livelihood lost. Despite it's heavy themes, A Good Year To Forget is a warm and beautiful record that encapsulates all the trials and tribulations of a challenging 12 months. Cape explains that lead single "It Could Be Real" - "is a song written from the perspective of a disenchanted single person. A person who has experienced the highs and lows of multiple failed relationships. They have more than once considered the possibility that they are not fit to partner with another. But they have landed on complacency. They now believe they are actually capable of lasting connections and their potential to be fit enough for someone else. It's a suspicious invitation, but the song is meant to be tongue and cheek and light as well."
