'I Was Raised In A Railroad Town' is the latest release from Jim & Valerie Gabehart, the premier husband & wife team in West Virginia's bluegrass scene. This CD is mainstream bluegrass, which falls somewhere between the traditional sounds of pioneers like Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, and Stanley Brothers on one side, and the 'new grass' music created by groups like New Grass Revival, Nickel Creek, and the Punch Brothers, on the other side. Their music features original compositions, adaptations of songs from other genres to the bluegrass style, and occasional traditional selections. Like their live shows, this CD features a variety of tempos, styles and moods, with a little humor thrown in for good measure. Recorded in Nashville and produced by Steve Thomas, Jim & Valerie are accompanied by regular group members Brandon Shuping (mandolin, vocals) and John 'Buckwheat' Green (bass, vocals), and guests Randy Kohrs (resophonic guitar) and Steve Thomas (fiddle). This CD also features a 'Bonus Track' from Jim & Valerie's daughter, Amy Taylor, an aspiring singer-songwriter who has relocated to Nashville to pursue her musical dreams.
