Blessed with a five octave vocal range combined with an innate aptitude for improvisation, vocalist Jean Carne (born Sarah Jean Perkins) has long been recognized as one of the finest singers of our time – first discovered in the jazz world as something quite unique, and then becoming one of the nation’s most gifted R&B performers. Recently, Carne began to work on a new album. Legendary Philly soul producer Butch Ingram began writing and searching for new songs for Jean to sing, putting the call out to some of the top songwriters for fresh material. Studio sessions with Ingram, the first family of Philly soul, were arranged for Jean who was eager to get to work on the new project. Warming up with the band, Jean began to run through some of her old hits and playfully starting singing some favorite songs that she never got a chance to record. The results of these “warm up” sessions proved to be so good that an entire album was made from them. Michael Upshaw, an original member of TRU – the hottest act on the Atlantic City Casino circuit, dropped by to sing a duet with Jean on the Harold Melvin and The Blue Notes 1975 classic hit ”Hope That We Can Be Together Soon.” Presented here is the single version, complete with a bonus instrumental and acapella version.
