Gwyn Ashton returns to the blues rock world with Grease Bucket, his first full-length electric power trio album since 2012's Radiogram release. In Ashton's true DIY approach, he recorded and produced Grease Bucket himself in Adelaide, South Australia, then mixed and mastered it alongside Andy Kite, who added the finishing touches at Against The Grain Studio, also in Adelaide. On this 10 - track collection of brand-new songs Ashton is back with all guitars blazing. He enlisted two Australian musicians Screaming Believers bassist Chris Lambden and Icehouse drummer Paul Wheeler on these sessions. This rhythm section locks in tight with Adelaide singer Andrea Dawson guesting with her gospel-infused backing vocals adding deliciously to Ashton's passionate singing and stellar guitar playing along with Jesse Deane-Freeman on organ on the track Evil Child. Grease Bucket is an electric shock of saturated riffs, sticky grooves and incandescent solos and from the opening with 'Something That The Cat Dragged In', Ashton imposes a retro and muscular sound, evoking the heyday of the blues of the 60s and 70s, yet comes off sounding fresh and contemporary, something that Ashton is known for in the blues rock circles. His experience recording with the late Rory Gallagher's backing band on his album Fang It! At the turn of the century, with Sensational Alex Harvey Band members on Prohibition in 2004, with Robert Plant's backing band on Radiogram in 2012 and musicians from Guns n' Roses, Deep Purple and Whitesnake makes him a force to be reckoned with and we think that he has recorded his strongest album to date.
