'GHOST RIDERS IN THE SKY' was a song written by Stan Jones in the late 40s and successfully recorded by Vaughn Monroe, Burl Ives, Peggy Lee and Bing Crosby in 1950, all of whom enjoyed massive hit versions that year. 'Ghost Riders' rapidly became established as a 'standard' and was regularly revived throughout the 50s, by artists like Dean Martin, Frankie Laine, Kay Starr, Jimmie Rodgers, The Brothers Four, Scat Man Crothers, Eddy?Arnold, Roger Williams, etc. In 1960 The Ramrods recorded a twangy, Duane Eddy-like instrumental version which became a worldwide hit, inspiring countless similarly-styled covers, from American artists like The Ventures, Lawrence Welk, The Titans and The Original?Surfaris, to European groups like The Scorpions (UK), The Spotnicks (Sweden), The Jumping Jewels (Holland), Die Playboys (West Germany), Les Sunlights (France), and many more. This inspired compilation presents thirty memorable versions of 'Ghost Riders'; fifteen vocals, and fifteen instro's. Many of these rare European instro versions are unavailable elsewhere on CD.
