LTM are pleased to announce the first CD from cult Scots new jazz ensemble The French Impressionist's, who recorded for the label Les Disques du Crepuscule label between 1981 and 1983. Formed by pianist and songwriter Malcolm Fisher in Glasgow, at first the band were allied to the Postcard Records stable, recording a first demo in June 1981 with the help of vocalist Paul Quinn and Roddy Frame and Campbell Owens of Aztec Camera. Fisher then formed a proper band with singer Louise Ness in 1982, recording further demos as well as the melodic singles a Selection of Songs and Santa Baby. 'Jazz without the superiority. The group claim to be a reaction against the cacophony of much modern music. Inspired by a remarkably wide span of source material, from Judy Garland to George Gershwin, Irving Berlin to the early Beatles, they reflect more than most the renewed respect for the Song. All they ask is for you to put your ears at ease and enjoy the melody' (NME, June 1982). This digitally remastered Selection of Songs on CD includes all tracks recorded by the band for singles and compilation albums, all the band's demos, and several in-concert tracks recorded live in Glasgow. The booklet includes a detailed band biography. After the band split in 1983, Malcolm Fisher relocated to Milan and has recorded several albums of solo piano music. Two cycles from these later recordings, Seven Suite and Lantern Suite, also grace this CD as bonus tracks.
