From the Solstice notes: François Rabbath was born in 1931 in Alep (Syria). At the golden age of the French song, he accompanied the greatest ones: Piaf, Aznavour, Brel, Barbara, Michel Legrand. Interpreter and composer, he created a 'New Technique of the Double-bass' which is an authority in the whole world. Owing to him, that one gains it's own freedom in order to become a real soloist instrument. In 1963, his first double-bass disc earned him the Prix de l'Académie Charles Cros. His recording of Bach's Suites, played on the double-bass but in the cello tessitura, constitutes not only an unprecedented achievement but, by his own admission, the crowning of his career as a musician.
