The meeting of East and West that has always characterized Georgian culture is especially strong factor in the rich variety of musical styles that range from Eastern-sounding monophony to the traditional polyphony of church music and rural popular music. The three ensembles recorded here - Soinari, Mzetamze, and Mtiebi - give broad perspective on the landscape of Georgian culture today, with a program of traditional and contemporary works that includes popular songs and music from films.
