Gay airline pilot John Peterson (Viggo Mortensen, who wrote and directed) had a lifelong cross to bear in the form of his irascible farmer father Willis (Lance Henriksen), who bore undisguised contempt for his son's lifestyle. With Willis becoming increasingly burdened by dementia, John brought him home for a visit, to hopefully convince him to move nearer to his kids-a task that the bitter old man won't make easy.
