Averaging over 200 shows a year, the Eastern can hold it down in all settings for all comers. Their self titled debut album was released last year in New Zealand and debuted straight into the top ten of the NZ Indie Charts based only on a ferocious live reputation and a belief in the old fashioned concept of playing for people, having made album of the week status in the Sunday Star Times and the Christchurch Press. The Eastern, hailing from New Zealand, bring backpacks full of road songs, battered acoustics, banjo and fiddle, with a heady combo of punk rock mandolin, doghouse bass, foot stomps and heartbreak. Whether swinging the high lonesome sound as a two piece or roaring through the night with their big, bad string band, the Eastern care about their shows and the people they meet. It doesn't matter how but, every handclap over every lost chord they try to fill with hope and guts and sing with their feet firmly kickin' to the ground and their voices raised high.
