Joseph L. Mankiewicz ("All About Eve") made his directorial debut with this chiller based on Anya Seton's best-seller. Gene Tierney stars as Miranda Wells, a naive 19th-century Connecticut farm girl who goes to live with her distant cousin Nicholas Van Ryn (Vincent Price) at his spooky New York mansion.
