Dr John - City Lights
Dr John - City Lights

As Dr. John The Night Tripper he was one of the revelations of the 1970 three days Holland Festival in 1970 (European equivalent to Woodstock). As a studio musician he played hundreds of albums from the Rolling Stones to Eric Clapton to the Black Keys. 'City Lights' is arguably one of Dr. John's most overlooked recordings, which is hard to imagine as the quality of session players are the crème de la crème of the then New York City and New Orleans recording scene. On drums is the great Steve Gadd, guitarist John Tropea and the horn section features David Sanborn, who takes several solos throughout, and background vocalists George Jones, Tammy Lynn, and Alvin Robinson shine. With Dr. John the sound and vibes of the New Orleans Voodoo and Mardi Gras are always nearby.
