Dion Francis DiMucci, better known as Dion, is an American singer and songwriter whose music incorporates elements of doo-wop, pop, rock, R&B, folk and blues. Initially the lead singer of the vocal group Dion and The Belmonts, Dion embarked on a solo career, and was one of the most prominent rock and roll performers of the pre-British Invasion era. He had 39 Top 40 hits in the late 1950s and early 1960s either as a solo performer, or with The Belmonts and the Del-Satins. At the end of 1962, Dion moved to Columbia Records. He was the first rock 'n' roll artist signed to the label. His first Columbia single, Leiber and Stoller's "Ruby Baby" reached No. 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, while "Donna the Prima Donna" and "Drip Drop" reached No. 6 in late 1963, all featured on this compilation. A Grammy-nominated artist, Dion has released over 40 albums. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1989.
