The Denver Brass The Denver Brass was formed in 1981 by some of Denver's finest professional brass musicians who sought to create an all new, one-of-a-kind chamber ensemble, which would be in the forefront of brass performance. The trademark sound of The Denver Brass features an array of more than 13 distinct brass instruments, utilizing mutes, technique and sound expertise to produce a rainbow of sound. Unique in the world as one of only a few professional large brass ensembles, The Denver Brass enjoys a success directly linked to it's universal appeal. People from every background find inspiration in diverse programming - classical, jazz, Broadway, Latin, and the inclusion of exceptional guest artists. Good friend and colleague Joe Galema is the perfect choice for "Feel the Sound," and unexpected and unlikely guest artists such as bagpipers, steel pans, or banjo create exciting opportunities for new sounds and commissions. The Denver Brass is comprised of 14 friends with passions ranging from great brass music, to skiing, hiking, yoga, cooking, Colorado history, four-wheeling, and solving the world's problems over a glass of fine wine or great Colorado beer. Dr Joseph Galema Joseph Galema joined the staff of the U.S. Air Force Academy in September 1982 and is currently Music Director and Academy Organist. At the Academy, he directs the Cadet Chorale and The Academy Singers and also plays the organ for hundreds of services and tours in the famous Cadet Chapel. In September 2008, Joe joined the Lamont School of Music, University of Denver, as organ instructor. Although he is a native of West Lafayette, Indiana, Joe chose to pursue his college education in Michigan. He received a Bachelor of Arts (1976) degree from Calvin College in Grand Rapids. He pursued post-graduate work in organ performance at The University of Michigan, earning both Master of Music (1978) and Doctor of Musical Arts (1982) degrees as a student of the renowned artist-teacher Marilyn Mason.
