Singer, percussionist and flutist Dédé Saint-Prix has been a leading exponent of West Indian music for 50 years. Originally from Martinique, he has popularised traditional chouval bwa music, taking it to every continent by mixing it with other rhythms from the Caribbean, Africa and Réunion. A committed musician, teacher and formidable entertainer, Dédé Saint-Prix is now a living legend. "If I have to use two words to sum up my musical career, they would be love and commitment. (...) My music has reconciled many of us with our roots, and given a boost to some homesick students. In the early days, Patrick Chamoiseau (winner of the 1992 Prix Goncourt) told me that he was writing books while listening to my music. As for me, I live from my art, I spread my philosophy, my energy, the Kréole language, my pedagogy, my Martinique... On the planet Mother Music." Dédé Saint-Prix
