David Solway was born and raised in the small village of Ste-Agathe-Des-Monts in the Laurentian Mountains of Quebec; the vibrant tri-cultural environment of Montreal forged his literary sensibility. He has always considered himself primarily a poet, and has published many award-winning books of poetry, including Franklin's Passage (winner of the Grand Prix du Livre de Montreal) and Reaching for Clear (winner of the A.M. Klein Poetry Prize). He has also written several prose books on educational, literary, and political subjects, of which The Big Lie: On Terror, Anti-Semitism, and Identity was a Canadian bestseller. Though he has played guitar and written songs for several years, he began performing only recently, sometimes performing a song at the end of a poetry reading. Several years ago, he and childhood friend Ted Paull (guitar, bass, flute) and Ted's wife Margaret (keyboards) began playing and recording together regularly in the Paulls' home-based Lakeview Studios, situated in the Thousand Islands region of Ontario. Inspired by the natural beauty of the surrounding environment, the music flowed freely and the collaboration blossomed. The result is Solway's first CD, Blood Guitar and other Tales, a series of musical stories in a blend of country and folk styles.
