In post-World War II Colorado, willful rancher Ella Connors (Jane Fonda) reluctantly took returned veteran neighbor Frank Athearn (James Caan) as an ally to fend off the takeover efforts of local land baron J.W. Ewing (Jason Robards). None of them, though, may be able to deal with determined oil interests ready to move in. Alan J.
