Christophe Rousset - Couperin: Les Nations

Best known today as a composer of harpsichord music, Francois Couperin also penned some remarkably beautiful chamber works. Les Nations explores the different musical styles of France and Italy. Each of the piece's four suites has a subtitle - La Francoise, L'Espagnole, L'Impériale and La Piémontoise. Despite these somewhat solemn monikers, Les Nations is consistently light and charming. As a crowning final of Couperin's anniversary year, Christophe Rousset and Les Talens Lyriques deliver a superb performance of this gem of the French Baroque.
