A phenomenon of the earliest days of disco, when record producers would enlist the talents of symphony orchestras to provide the lush strings, brassy horns and penetrating tympani that were the trademark of some of the best disco productions, the disco orchestra was born. One of the finest examples on record is The Charlie Calello Orchestra's "Calello Serenade" album, originally released in 1979. Calello, a veteran producer in his own right, arranged and produced Odyssey's big hit "Native New Yorker." Along with the classic sound of the full orchestra, "Calello Serenade" also features appearances from some very notable session vocalists including Luther Vandross and Cissy Houston. The centerpiece of the album is a disco reworking of the 1940's Louis Prima big band hit "Sing, Sing, Sing," which became a massive club hit. The expanded edition of the classic album presented here features four bonus tracks, including the original 7" vinyl mixes of "In The Mood" and "Opus One," plus a special two part version of "Sing, Sing, Sing." All selections have been newly remastered for this exclusive release.
